  1. Metacognition – May 2023

    03/05/2023 by Miss. C.

    Did you realise just how much work goes into learning to learn?!

    Metacognition is defined as having an awareness of your own thought processes.

    In this, across school we are learning how to think about our own learning more explicitly. To do this we are exploring specific strategies for planning, monitoring, and evaluating our learning.

    So far we have explored:

    – how metacognition fits into our School Aims:

    – how metacognition fits into our School Values and Curriculum Drivers:

    From this we have explicitly explored:

    – The importance and power of being able to ask effective questions

    – the purpose of questions

    – The importance of being responsible for our own learning. Identifying our strengths and how we can learn in different ways – variety is the spice of life!

    – The importance of  trying to improve and consider what and how you can do this

  3. R.E. Week – Spring 1 ’23

    25/04/2023 by Miss. C.

    Woodthorpe Church of England Primary School - Religious Education

    During R.E. week this half-term we are focusing on the concept of CREATION according to the religion of HINDUISM and our response to the question:

    Does a beautiful world mean there is a beautiful God?

    Before we can begin to answer this question we needed to consider a few things. Firstly, what do we already know about Hinduism and what do we need to know to help us understand and interpret the Hindu story of creation.

    We worked in small groups to learn and share key facts about Hinduism:

    • 3rd most popular religion in the world with > 750, 000, 000 followers;
    • Originated over 4,000 years ago (world’s oldest existing religion) in Northern India, near the river Indus;
    • Name Hindu comes from the river Indus;
    • Developed from Brahminism;
    • Not a single religion – it is the practises of many different religious groups which originated in India;
    • ‘Aum’ is the main symbol which is the sound heard in the deepest meditation and is said ot be the name most suited to God;
    • Hinduism is about doing and not just believing;
    • Universal soul / God = Brahman who they believe is in everyone = Atman;

    Check out this site for more information:

    http://www.primaryhomeworkhelp.co.uk/religion/hinduism.htm

    Then we were ready to consider our own beliefs on the creation of our world along with exploring the Hindu creation story.

    The Hindu Creation Story

    Following this we returned back to our focus question and what it meant for something to be beautiful –

    After careful consideration we created our own ‘Diamond 9’ which ordered our beautiful things according to importance to ourselves.
